So what’s this all about then?

Every day this year I shall take a photo and post it up here.

As if that wasn’t enough of a challenge I will limit myself to only using the camera on my shiny new iPhone 5S – which turns out to be a rather good camera. I haven’t used it in low light yet but in the sunshine it is excellent.

The images are a massive step up in quality from those taken with the scratched up lens of my ageing iPhone 4. I suspect the lack of optical zoom will be limiting. However I have taken to using a 28mm prime lens on my canon 7d so I’m used to a fixed focus lens and shall continue to use my feet to zoom.

I am using my iPhone 5S not only to take the images but to create this site (using the free iOS WordPress app) edit the images (if required) and upload them. No other computers or devices have/will be used. I think it’s an interesting project showing how far smartphones/handheld computers have come.

I remember my first phone – a Sony Ericsson device. It was small for a phone but massive compared to today’s mini computers. And all it did was make calls and send text messages on its two line monochrome dot matrix display. The best thing was the contact’s memory so I could store my friends’ phone numbers. And so began the demise of my memory.
